PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today condemned the attacks on a hospital in Gaza, labelling it as a level of insanity.

He described the attacks by Israel as extreme and something that has to stop.

“Women and children continue to be the victims. It has reached a level of insanity and must stop,” he said, while hitting out at the Western world over its hypocrisy and talk about human rights.

Anwar said this after officiating the Path towards Greater Prosperity for Malaysia symposium at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

“It seems like there are categories. There are upper-class people and then there are slave-class people, and this is what we object to, and we strongly condemn this.

“At this point, accusations and blame do not matter. The only thing that matters is the war and we urge Israel to stop it,” he said.

It was earlier reported that about 500 Palestinians were killed in a blast at a hospital in Gaza.

Reports said that Israel’s military attributed the blasts at the al-Ahli Arab Hospital to a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.

The incident has since been condemned by a number of neighbouring governments including Jordan and Egypt.

The World Health Organisation also condemned the deadly strike and demanded the immediate protection of civilians and healthcare in the strip.

“I will be heading to Riyadh on Thursday for the Asean and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and will discuss with other world leaders on the Israel-Palestine conflict,” he said.

On Malaysia’s participation in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, Anwar said that any decisions to withdraw or remain will be made jointly including with the United Nations.

“If the troops’ safety can be guaranteed, then we can continue the mission.

“If not, we will bring them home,” he added. – The Vibes, October 18, 2023
