THE multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driven by Dungun Member of Parliament, Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli was destroyed in a fire at Kilometer 330 of the East Coast Highway Two (LPT2) near the Paka Toll Plaza entrance, today.

In the incident at about 12.15 pm, Wan Hasan and his wife Siti Zaliha Mohamad were travelling in the MPV on their way from Kuantan, Pahang to return to Dungun.

Wan Hasan said that upon arriving at the scene, he realized that the vehicle he was driving was experiencing engine problems.

"I slowed down the vehicle and saw the 'check engine' light on the dashboard before stopping the vehicle.

"As soon as I stopped, I was helped by a highway user who saw the bottom of the engine smoking," he said when contacted by Harian Metro.

He said he called Peronda Plus to ask for help and soon after his vehicle's engine started to burn.

"The fire was getting bigger and my wife and me were unable to do anything and only managed to grab important belongings and saving ourselves.

"My wife and I went to Perasing, Kemaman to visit a sick family member yesterday before deciding to spend the night in Kuantan.

"This morning, I left for Dungun and did not expect this," he said, adding that he was grateful he and his wife escaped unhurt and thanked everyone who prayed for them.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department Zone Two Chief Rohaya Jamil said they received an emergency call at 12.47 pm and 10 members from the Kerteh Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) with a machine rushed to the scene.

"The fire was completely extinguished at 1.25pm ​​and the cause and amount of damage are still under investigation," he said. - September 1, 2025
