A SENIOR police officer from the Kuantan District Police Headquarters (IPD) and his wife died after the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident with another car at Kilometre 76 of Jalan Kuantan-Segamat, early this morning.

Pekan District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, said that in the incident at about 3 am, the victim, Syah Lokman Ludza Ramli, 50, who was on duty as a senior police officer at IPD Kuantan, was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident along with his wife, Nurulfiza Ardiana Ambak, 46.

According to him, the accident also caused six other victims, including the couple's four children, to be injured and receive treatment at the Muadzam Shah Hospital.

"Initial investigations found that a Honda City driven by a 26-year-old man was travelling from Gelang Patah, Johor to Terengganu, while the Proton Wira driven by the victim was travelling from Kuantan to Jempol, Negeri Sembilan," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Zaidi said that upon arriving at the scene of the incident, which was dark and rainy, the Proton Wira driven by the victim was believed to have lost control before skidding into the opposite lane and colliding with the Honda City.

“As a result of the accident, the driver of the Proton Wira and his wife were confirmed dead at the scene.

“The couple’s four children, who were in the same vehicle, were also injured, including a 10-year-old boy who suffered a broken left leg,” he said.

He said the couple’s three other children, aged 13, 15 and 18, suffered minor injuries as well as injuries to their waist and jaw.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Honda City involved only suffered minor injuries while his wife, who is 22 weeks pregnant, is still receiving treatment at the emergency zone of Muadzam Shah Hospital.

He said initial investigations found that the accident was believed to have occurred after the Proton Wira driven by the victim entered the opposite lane.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said. – May 27, 2026
