KUALA LUMPUR – Social media users are incensed at a viral video clip showing an individual blatantly dumping a huge sack of litter from his lorry into a river before driving away.

It is understood that the incident took place yesterday evening at the Sg Wak Rabun in Batu 33, Pontian, Johor.

The video, which was believed to have been recorded by a couple driving along the same bridge over the river, has since made the rounds on multiple social media platforms.

In the 36-second clip, a bald, elderly man wearing a striped t-shirt and gray shorts is seen hurling a huge bag of litter from the back of his small lorry directly into the river.

He then proceeded to pick up smaller litters that were left over from his vehicle before throwing them away.

A separate 16-second video also showed the aftermath of his action, with loads of more litter pieces seen strewn across the river and floating away, indicating that more rubbish might have been disposed of there by the perpetrator earlier.

Twitter user @akukopi22, who uploaded the clips on his account, expressed bemusement over such an irresponsible act that can threaten the environment.

“If the river dies, so will humans. This is crazy. What is so hard to understand? Rivers and seas are not litter-disposing areas. Our future generations will be the ones suffering,” he said.

The comment section was filled with infuriated citizens who demand action be taken against the individual.

Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also appears to have taken a keen interest in the matter, ordering his officers to identify the offender and take immediate action.

“I’ve watched the video, and I can’t forgive the perpetrator. I feel it is extremely immoral and uncivilised,” he commented briefly on the incident during a press conference after visiting the Batu retention pond here today. – The Vibes, September 29, 2022
