KUALA LUMPUR – Kota Tampan assemblyman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad has the majority in the state assembly to form a Barisan Nasional (BN)-Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, said Dewan Negara Perak member Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini.

The palace official confirmed the matter at a press conference outside of Istana Kinta, saying that Sultan Nazrin Shah will be swearing the Umno man in at 5.30pm today in Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

“Earlier, Abdul Aziz Bari from PH and Saarani from BN had an audience with the sultan and both agreed to form a government, with nine BN assemblymen and 24 PH assemblymen. In total, they had 33 assemblymen who named their chosen candidate as menteri besar,” said Annuar.

“In the interest of fairness, His Royal Highness also summoned Perikatan Nasional (PN), represented by Razman Zakaria and Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, seeing that they as a single coalition command the most seats, at 26 seats.

“They were asked if they had the numbers to form a government. They both admitted that they didn’t have the numbers to form a government and understood that His Royal Highness had to form a government based on the state constitution on who commands the simple majority.”

He explained that seeing there were no disputes by PN, the Perak ruler was satisfied with what was presented by BN and PH.
