KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional’s (BN) 30 MPs have been summoned for an audience with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow.
A statement from the palace said the king will meet the MPs individually, starting from 10.30am tomorrow.
This follows Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s audience this afternoon with the respective heads of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalitions.
“This process is to allow (His Majesty) to make a decision so as to appoint a member of the Dewan Rakyat who has the majority support of MPs to become the prime minister,” said Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.
Talks to form a new government and name a prime minister candidate have taken two days far, following the 15th general election which resulted in a hung Parliament.
After BN decided to remain an opposition coalition and not side with either PH or PN to form a government, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were summoned to Istana Negara this afternoon for an audience with the king.
Muhyiddin left the palace without speaking to the press.
Anwar, who gave a press conference, thanked the king for the opportunity to form a government and also said there was no decision on a new prime minister as yet. – The Vibes, November 22, 2022
