KUALA LUMPUR – PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil has called for Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Datuk Azman Nasrudin to be investigated by the authorities for his “rude and disrespectful” statements towards the royal institution.

In a TikTok video today, Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, slammed Azman, PN’s candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat, for calling the unity government endorsed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as a “kerajaan zina (adulterous government).”

“(Azman’s) statements clearly disrespect the power of the king enshrined in the federal constitution to elect a prime minister who can then go on to form a government.

“(Azman) should be investigated,” Fahmi asserted, challenging Azman to return the “Datuk” title conferred on him by Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah if the Kedah state executive councillor insists on questioning the Agong’s discretion.

“If (Azman) disagrees with the unity government and continues to dispute the royal powers, he should return the ‘Datuk’ title given by the Kedah sultan.

“Don’t forget that the Kedah sultan was also a part of the Conference of Rulers which had met to discuss the appointment of a prime minister,” he said.

The rulers had met on November 24 after nearly a week of political impasse in the nation following the 15th general election, which saw no single coalition securing the parliamentary majority needed to form the government.

It was later announced on the same day that Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was to be sworn-in as the nation’s 10th prime minister, with his coalition securing the most parliamentary constituencies at 82 seats.

Over the weekend, it was reported that Azman had expressed his distaste for the cooperation between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) in forming the government, claiming that the alliance has also been opposed by party grassroot leaders and members. – The Vibes, November 29, 2022
