KUALA LUMPUR – Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will take a stricter approach against members who tarnish the party’s image, said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi.

Speaking to reporters after attending the party’s Supreme Council meeting tonight, Puad said Zahid had expressed his intention to crack down on errant party members who constantly insult the Barisan Nasional (BN) linchpin.

“Zahid) was clear about being firmly against disciplinary issues (in the party),” Puad said.

“He will not compromise anymore with (party members) who like to smear the party name, including by revealing matters discussed during party meetings,” he said at the Umno headquarters here.

He revealed that three Umno division leaders have been fired from the party for “berating” the party.

Puad said that those sacked from the party include two Wanita Umno division chiefs and an Umno division leader, all of whom are not Supreme Council members.

“It was determined during the meeting earlier that they will be fired from Umno for belittling the party and over campaign issues,” he said.

He added that a statement detailing the names of those dropped from the party, along with other announcements from the meeting, will be released soon.

On November 13, Umno temporarily suspended the party and branch-level posts of Arau Wanita Umno division chief Datuk Seri Shamsiah Yasin as well as her Maran counterpart Datin Seri Fatimah Kassim for supporting the candidates of an opposing party in the 15th general election. – The Vibes, December 8, 2022
