PUTRAJAYA – Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin did not dismiss the possibility of him contesting the Umno presidency again.

Speaking to reporters at the Health Ministry complex here today, Khairy, who was Umno’s candidate for the Sg Buloh Parliament seat in the recent general election (GE15), simply said “We’ll see,” with a grin when asked if he would go for the party top spot again.

He was defeated by the party’s current president and deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in 2018.

During one of his campaigns for the Sg Buloh seat, Khairy admitted that he would one day like to helm Umno as well as the nation as its prime minister.

Khairy lost the race for the Sg Buloh parliamentary constituency to Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk R. Ramanan in GE15.

Following his loss, he had taken to Instagram to hint that this is not the end of his political career, saying: “Is this the end of the road? I’m quite certain it isn’t."

Last Friday (December 9), it was reported that Umno veteran Tan Sri Annuar Musa was sacked from the party along with two Wanita Umno division leaders, following Zahid’s decision to take stricter action against those who tarnish the party’s image.

Annuar, who was dropped by Umno from contesting in GE15, had openly expressed his backing for Khairy in Sg Buloh.

The 2022 Umno general assembly, initially scheduled to take place on December 21 to 24, will now be held on January 11 to 14. – The Vibes, December 12, 2022
