KUALA LUMPUR – The radio frequency identification (RFID) toll collection system and Touch ‘n Go e-wallet at all DUKE and SPE highways are temporarily down, and motorists can only use their Touch ‘n Go cards at the moment.

According to an announcement on DUKE Highway’s social media account, motorists have been advised to ensure that there is sufficient balance on their Touch ‘n Go cards to avoid any inconvenience at the toll plazas.

Earlier this year, there was mass congestion at several tolls, also due to issues with the RFID technology.

Drivers took to social media at that time to vent their frustration at traffic standstills that began as early as 7am and continued well into the evening rush hour at the Sg Besi, Bandar Seri Putra, and Subang toll plazas.

Following the incident, PLUS said SmartTAG payment lanes will be reinstated at PLUS Malaysia Bhd toll plazas.

Meanwhile, in a recent update, DUKE Highway said the problem with the RFID toll collection system and Touch ‘n Go e-wallet at all DUKE and SPE highways was due to vandalism.

The concessionaire said certain parties had vandalised the fibre optic cable at their communication supply lines near the highways.

“In view of this, payments via RFID and Touch ‘n Go PayDirect could not be made.

“Telekom Malaysia is working to repair the vandalised lines and hopes to complete it as soon as possible.”

DUKE Highway also apologises for any inconvenience caused to motorists due to the act. – The Vibes, December 17, 2022
