KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) has filed several election petitions contesting the results in several seats won by Perikatan Nasional (PN) over allegations of vote-buying.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir confirmed the matter, stating that the coalition had a “strong basis” to file the petitions.

“We have filed petitions for several parliamentary constituencies. Definitely, there is a strong basis for us to file the petitions but the chairman of the coalition will announce the exact seats at a later date,” he said when met on the sidelines of the party’s annual general assembly today.

When asked whether these seats were won by PN, Zambry said BN had filed petitions “in various areas”.

This, after Umno information chief Isham Jalil revealed during a party event on January 9 that PN had won many seats in the previous elections due to corrupt practices such as vote-buying.

Isham went on to say that the recently concluded general election was the “dirtiest” election to date as acts of vote-buying were rampant.

“After discussing the matter with party leaders, we have identified at least three parliamentary seats where we will be filing an election petition because our opponents engaged in vote-buying,” he said during the event held among Selangor Umno members last week. – The Vibes, January 13, 2023
