GOPENG – A study is being conducted on the installation of an early warning system in the Orang Asli settlement in Pos Dipang, near Kampar in the event of floods or landslides.
State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transportation Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said this alarm system would help the Orang Asli make early preparations to leave the area immediately and save their lives.
“We have also requested that any activity on the hillside be stopped immediately to prevent unwanted incidents,” he told reporters after launching the state-level Integrated Ops and Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with Chinese New Year at the Rural Transformation Center here today.
Also present were Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and state Road Transport Department director Yusoff Abustan.
Yesterday, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said an investigation had been carried out to identify the cause of the recent mudslide in the settlement and assess the incident’s seriousness and if there was a need to take mitigation and prevention measures.
It was reported that five houses were damaged in the incident. – Bernama, January 19, 2023
