[UPDATED] Ampang-Sri Petaling LRT line disruptions for two more weeks: Loke

KUALA LUMPUR – Service disruptions on the Light Rail Transit line between the Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek stations will continue for two more weeks, Transport Minister Anthony Loke reportedly said.

Free Malaysia Today reported him speaking at an event in Klang today, where he said 200 Prasarana staff are handling the situation while repairs are ongoing for the next two weeks.

He apologised to passengers for the inconvenience, adding that the delay in resuming normal operations was to ensure commuters’ safety.

Loke also assured the public that there will be shuttle busses to take passengers to the next station from the Masjid Jamek stop where trains on that line will be turned back.

Last Friday, LRT service on this line faced delays due to a kinked track alignment near the Bandaraya station in addition to structural damage to the flyover in the area, believed to be due to nearby construction works.

Subsequently, Kuala Lumpur City Hall issued a stop-work order for a construction site on Jalan Raja Laut here with immediate effect, following the service disruption.

The service on the route between the Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya LRT stations have been discontinued until safety can be ensured.

Meanwhile, the Ampang LRT line will also run at a reduced speed which will result in service delays, Rapid Rail said in a statement.

Trains from Putra Heights will turn back at the Plaza Rakyat station and those from Sentul Timur will turn back at the Bandaraya station, while shuttle services are available between the Plaza Rakyat and Masjid Jamek stations. – The Vibes, February 1, 2023
