KUALA LUMPUR – A tour van driver and five of his passengers died in an accident along KM4.8 of Jalan Genting Highlands here this afternoon.

The accident is believed to have been caused by the driver losing control of the vehicle carrying 14 passengers, leading to the van hitting a concrete divider while descending from the resort area.

According to Sinar Harian, Pahang Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ismail Abdul Ghani said that the deceased were the male driver and five local female passengers.

He said the department received the call about the accident at around 1.15pm this afternoon.

However, he did not share the details of the driver and passengers.

“Five (department) members, including two officers, along with a rescue vehicle went to the location for the operation to help save the victims involved,” he was quoted as saying.

“The trapped victims were successfully saved with the use of rescue equipment.”

The officer said the bodies were handed over to the police force for post-mortem, while the injured were sent to Bentong Hospital for treatment. – The Vibes, February 8, 2023
