KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be applying for a remand order against Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, dubbed “Datuk Roy”.
The anti-graft agency is expected to head to the magistrates’ court today to submit the application.
The wanted 54-year-old, who was wanted by the MACC, turned himself in yesterday, reported The Star.
It was reported that Hussein had been charged and sentenced to jail on a corruption offence.
He was also said to be a key planner in a corruption case involving soliciting and taking bribes amounting to RM400,000 to avoid investigation into the Jana Wibawa programme.
Earlier, the MACC had picked up one of its own officers and three other individuals, including a woman, who was released on bail. The three other suspects are remanded until today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had cancelled all unimplemented projects that were awarded under direct negotiation by previous administrations.
“I have said earlier that the RM15 billion flood mitigation project can be saved. Jana Wibawa, meanwhile, cost RM7 billion, but we have cancelled their implementations. We have cancelled direct negotiation projects – all of them, don’t worry,” said the prime minister.
He said these projects would be renegotiated under an open tender, and that the move was expected to save about RM3 billion.
On February 15, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that approvals for RM5.7 billion worth of rural development projects under Jana Wibawa had been postponed pending a review to determine if they were awarded in accordance with the procurement process and governance requirements.
Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is a suspect in the MACC’s ongoing investigation into the Jana Wibawa stimulus initiative, which he launched during his time in office.
Previously, Bersatu’s Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged with soliciting and receiving bribes worth RM6.9 million to help a private firm secure a central spine road government contract worth RM232 million in 2022.
He and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad are the first two individuals charged with corruption involving Jana Wibawa.
A director of a furniture company, Datuk Teo Wee Cheng, was slapped with nine charges of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM12.87 million in connection with Jana Wibawa. – The Vibes, March 14, 2023
