KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, has made good on his threat to lodge a police report today against Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, accusing her of proselytising Christianity to Muslim youth through a programme linked to her ministry.

Together with some Bersatu members, Badrul lodged the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters over the Impact Malaysia programme called “Jom Ziarah Gereja”.

Speaking to media outside the police station, he said he had waited to be called in by police after Yeoh lodged her report against him for defamation.

“I was waiting for police to call me for a counter report but until today, police didn’t call me. Therefore, today I came forth.

“It’s clear what Impact Malaysia, what Hannah Yeoh, (are) doing, is lawfully wrong. When talking about leaders visiting other places of worship, it is fine as it is their responsibility to go visit and find out if there are any concerns and help needed, (but) it is different from bringing Muslim youth to church.

“This is an act of extreme pluralism and liberalism promoted by Yeoh through the Youth and Sports Ministry and public’s money,” Badrul Hisham said.

He also cited Yeoh’s autobiography Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey, stating that he wrote about it in his police report alleging that it promoted Christianity.

Yeoh yesterday spoke about the Jom Ziarah programme in the Dewan Rakyat, stating that Muslim youth are not involved.

The agency involved is Impact Integrated, also called Impact Malaysia, and organises visits to houses of worship to foster better understanding and tolerance of different religions among Malaysian youth.

The allegations that Yeoh was evangelising Christianity to Muslim youth surfaced on social media and in chat groups, which the Segambut MP has blamed on Bersatu members. – The Vibes, March 16, 2023
