BUTTERWORTH – Education authorities will emphasise helping students build strong characters, which include qualities like compassion and kindness which will help them prepare to face the challenges of adulthood.
Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said one of the main goals of the ministry is to produce a generation with strong character and dignity.
In line with the Madani slogan of promoting sustainability, care and compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity, and trust in Malaysian society, Lim said it begins in schools and among educators.
“When our children possess strong values, it will be easier to absorb new knowledge and skills, especially after the setbacks during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Lim said this after opening the state government’s initiative, an education fair themed “We Care About Your Future” at the Butterworth Arena here.
The event was organised by the Penang Youth Development Council (PDYC).
The Tanjong MP said that such events provide a high-impact effect on students, especially those seeking higher education opportunities.
Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, who happens to be the older brother of Hui Ying, was also present where he cited that in a survey of 1,000 international students, 85% of them stated that such fairs helped them choose which studies to pursue.
Also, 75% of them gained access to institutions in which they wish to study.
Hence, such events are important in helping the young find their footing in pursuing higher education, said Guan Eng.
Among those present were PYDC general manager Gwee Sai Ling and state executive councillor Soon Lip Chee, who oversees the youth portfolio.
Gwee said that the event is also important for school leavers to decide which area of education they wish to pursue. – The Vibes, March 25, 2023
