KUALA LUMPUR – Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has prohibited the usage of mobile devices during meetings involving state authorities.
In a Facebook post, Rauf said that the directive, issued less than a week after he became chief minister, must be adhered to by every department and agency under the state administration.
“Mobile phones are banned from being brought into meetings, especially ones that discuss private and confidential matters while being chaired by the chief minister.
“This decision is to ensure the secrecy of government information,” the post said, noting that the instructions came into effect yesterday.
Rauf also ordered for the national and state anthem to be played every Monday at 10am while the al-Fatihah prayer is to be recited every Monday to Friday at 8am.
He added that he had highlighted the new rules during his first meeting as chief minister with senior state government officers.
“The rules, which will foster a sense of love for the nation and country, are also in line with the appreciation of Islamic values amongst the public service sector,” he said.
Last Friday, the state Umno liaison chief was sworn in as the state’s 13th chief minister after the resignation of his predecessor, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, two days ago.
In the recent party elections, Rauf retained his post as Masjid Tanah division chief unopposed, and was also re-elected to the party’s Supreme Council.
Sulaiman has insisted that his decision was due to health issues and he was neither pressured by any party to step down nor offered a position as senator. – The Vibes, April 5, 2023
