KUALA LUMPUR – Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar has refuted media reports claiming his house was raided by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday as part of its probe into alleged corruption involving the recruitment of migrant workers.
“No, no,” he said briefly when pressed by reporters on the matter after attending an event at Le Meridien Hotel, Putrajaya, today.
This follows a report by Utusan Malaysia that the minister’s home was raided by MACC officers after he gave his statement to the anti-graft agency yesterday.
He confirmed that he was questioned by the MACC yesterday.
“(I was) not arrested, it was just to give a statement,” Sivakumar said today when asked about it.
The DAP lawmaker said that as investigations are still ongoing, he would leave it up to the authorities to complete their probe.
“I have said that I will give my full cooperation. The Human Resources Ministry will also give its cooperation in the investigation, no problem.”
Sinar Harian had also reported, citing sources, that the minister’s home was raided after he gave his statement yesterday. Sources told it that the raids were in relation to allegations that Sivakumar had accepted millions of ringgit from an individual in return for guaranteeing a government contract.
The Batu Gajah MP’s questioning by MACC yesterday follows the arrests of two of his close aides, including his private secretary, and a recruitment agent last week.
MACC officers raided the ministry on Thursday morning, and sources said the commission will be widening its scope of investigation to include senior officials and heads of agencies under the ministry. – The Vibes, April 17, 2023
