MIRI – There are certain “desperate” political factions currently fuelling a plot to topple the federal unity government out of envy towards Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, says Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“These desperate politicians are trying to create an impression of the unity government being on the verge of collapse, because they are jealous of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gaining popular support from the rakyat,” says its information chief Abun Sui.
“The unity government is in fact heading in the right direction of carrying the nation forward.
“The socio-economic situation is being stabilised and the PM is on the right track with current focus on the rakyat’s welfare.
“This has prompted desperate politicians who are eager to see Anwar and the unity government fail to be more aggressive in destabilising the government through speculation of MPs resigning in big numbers,” Sui said in a statement today.
He said the present government can only be changed through a successful vote of no confidence against Anwar and Parliament’s dissolution.
“There is no other way the unity government can be forced to give up power,” he said.
Sarawak PH is fully backing the unity government and is confident the plot to destabilise it will not succeed, said Sui, who is also Sarawak PKR deputy chairman.
The Vibes had reported on April 24 of talks within the political sphere of a fresh plot to unseat the prime minister that could involve forcing by-elections.
Under the current anti-party hopping law, any MP who resigns or ceases to be a member of their party will lose their seat in the Dewan Rakyat, triggering a by-election.
It is understood that some Barisan Nasional MPs are currently being wooed by certain key individuals and persuaded to take part in a “do-or-die mission” to quit their party and sacrifice their seats.
On April 25, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said he and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are not involved in any plot to derail the unity government.
Fadillah, who is senior vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu said that as far as GPS is concerned, its MPs are backing the unity government.
“Our focus is to help revive the socio-economic situation in the country.
“GPS MPs have not been approached by anyone to be involved in any such plots,” he told reporters in Kuching at his Hari Raya open house.
Fadillah said the people should not be swayed by rumours coming from social media. – The Vibes, May 4, 2023
