KEPALA BATAS – The Seberang Prai Utara district police has issued 237 compounds amounting to RM694,000 for flouting the standard operating procedures (SOPs) amid the movement control order (MCO) 3.0.
This includes a 58-year-old man who was found with a pink wristband at a hawker complex near Teluk Air Tawar here. He was supposed to observe quarantine pending the outcome of his Covid-19 screening.
District police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said acting on a public tip-off, the man was nabbed and compounded RM4,000 for not being in quarantine.
“A total of 62 compounds were issued for failing to observe the social distancing, 47 compounds for not wearing masks, and 47 compounded for crossing districts and the states.
“Yesterday alone we issued compounds amounting to RM78,500 for various offences under the MCO,” he said.
Noorzainy said today onwards, the police would step up the monitoring, conducting patrol rounds and checking the premises and entertainment outlets.
“During our checks last night, we compounded a total of 27 people for various offences for flouting the SOPs. In Taman Kuala Bekah, Penaga, Kepala Batas, we found eight men aged 46 and 61 sitting in a hut.
“At Pasar Sri Uda at Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth three men were found talking and at a flat in Mak Mandin we found six men and another two at a condominium in Jalan Raja Uda aged between 46 and 61 found gathered where they failed to observe the social distancing, and all were compounded.”
Noorzainy said all the men were fined RM1,500 each.
Meanwhile, a 57-year-old factory owner was fined RM2,000 for failing to display MySejahtera QR code and failing to observe the social distancing during police checks.
During the MCO 3.0 operations check police arrested women aged 32 and 33 at a playground in Taman Berlian, Bagan Ajam and seized 112 packets of ketum drinks.
He said initial investigations revealed they sold the Ketum drinks at nearby Taman Pantai Bersih and were getting the supply from Penaga, here.
In another case, a decomposed human head was reported to be found at Jalan Makloom here yesterday afternoon.
A forensic team from the state police headquarters arrived to investigate the incident and found the victim’s remains in a drain. – The Vibes, May 25, 2021
