KUALA LUMPUR – Six opposition MPs have been called up to the Dang Wangi police headquarters today over their participation in a march on Monday to protest against the postponement of parliamentary proceedings.
The lawmakers are Kepong’s Lim Lip Eng, Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam), Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai), Tony Pua (Damansara), Hannah Yeoh (Segambut) and Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar).
It is understood that police are conducting investigations into these parliamentarians over their participation in a gathering at Dataran Merdeka, from where a crowd, comprising mostly MPs, marched towards Parliament.
However, they were blocked by police from entering the Parliament premises, despite Kuala Lumpur top cop Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim later telling the press that MPs are allowed in although there are no sittings.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said 206 reports have been lodged over the incident.
The opposition MPs took to social media to express their frustration over police’s decision to haul them up for questioning.
“Today, I will be questioned by police over a (march) towards Parliament a few days ago,” said Lim.
“I was merely performing my duties as an MP. That’s why I had to go to Parliament.”

Yeoh asked why opposition lawmakers are being summoned for questioning when ministers and several key political figures had gathered at Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s house last night.
“Why are police calling up only opposition MPs to record statements, and not those from Perikatan Nasional?” she said in a tweet accompanied by a video showing politicians entering Muhyiddin’s home.
Syed Saddiq condemned police’s move to quiz members of his Muda party involved in the anti-government #Lawan rally on Saturday.
“Now, it is almost every day that the rakyat have been called up for questioning.
“Today (yesterday), Muda members Amir Hadi, Dr Thanussha Xavier, Dr Mathen Nair and Dr Teo Lee Ken were called up to the Dang Wangi police headquarters.
“Those who gathered at the prime minister’s house, when will they be called up?”

Fahmi merely tweeted that he was on his way to the police station today.
In a post later, he said he has lodged a report against Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin over her comments in a television interview about the ongoing exchange between the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and PN cabinet.
