KUALA LUMPUR – Lahad Datu MP and Segama assemblyman Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi today officially became a member of Bersatu.
Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the membership application of Mohamaddin was approved and accepted at the special Bersatu supreme council meeting tonight that was chaired by its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Bersatu welcomes his membership because it will not only further strengthen the party’s position in the Sabah government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, but also provide a huge benefit to the development and welfare of the people in the parliamentary and state constituencies that he (Mohamaddin) represents,” Hamzah said in a statement last night.
On October 30, Mohamaddin announced that he was quitting Warisan as he wanted to focus on developing both Lahad Datu and Segama.
He was tourism, arts and culture minister from 2018 to 2020 when Pakatan Harapan held federal power.
Hamzah said that at the meeting, Bersatu also agreed to hold the 5th Bersatu annual general meeting (AGM) on December 18 and 19 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), which will be physically attended by 1,600 delegates from across the country.
“As such, we wish all the best to delegates attending the divisional general meetings nationwide that will be held from November 26 (today) to 28,” he said.
On the Sarawak election, Hamzah said Bersatu will hold further talks with the component parties of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak to determine the strategy and preparations for the December 18 polls.
On the Melaka polls held on November 20, Hamzah said Bersatu felt the results of the state election showed that PN is a party that is influential and has solid support among voters in the state. – Bernama, November 26, 2021
