IPOH – Police have slammed social media postings that wrongly depicted two policemen doing nothing to resolve a fight that resulted in the death of a mentally challenged individual in Flat Ashby Road, Sg Senam, here.

District police chief Yahaya Hassan said in reality, it was police who managed to end the fight by responding to it swiftly – although they were unable to prevent the death of an individual involved in it.

Three suspects were arrested and taken to the police station for further investigation, where they will be remanded, Yahaya said in a statement.

He was responding to online comments that police did nothing to stop the fight.

“The photographs that went viral reflected that police did nothing to resolve the fight, but it is untrue. The shots were posted before police moved in.”

He said those who posted the comments are irresponsible, as they do not know the actual circumstances of the tragic incident that occurred yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 505(B) of the Penal Code for making a statement with intent to cause fear or public alarm, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network services.

“For this case, police obtained a seven-day remand against the three men to facilitate investigations. We hope people will not spread fake information and speculate on the case, as it could jeopardise the investigation.”

It was reported yesterday that police arrested three men – including a father and son duo – suspected to be involved in the alleged murder of a 29-year-old man.
