KUCHING – A total of 82 sites have been identified in Sarawak for the implementation of 5G network services, which is expected to roll out soon.

Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the implementation will be done in stages, with the cities of Kuching, Miri, and Bintulu being the first phase of the project.

“Sibu city is in the second phase of implementation. Digital Nasional Bhd, a subsidiary of the federal government, is still analysing the availability of the state government, especially in telecommunication infrastructure facilities,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, the Sarawak government is also implementing its own scheme to support the 5G infrastructure and network initiative.

“The focus (of the initiative) is to provide quality telecommunication services that can be rolled out immediately across Sarawak. For example, one initiative under the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Bhd is the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network,” he said.

Julaihi said the ministry recently held a second engagement session with agencies and stakeholders from the telecommunication industry.

“This meeting is more intensive and focuses on emerging issues related to mobile services and internet networks, which still need to be improved in various areas,” he said. – Bernama, November 4, 2022
