KUALA LUMPUR – Perlis mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin wants DAP to apologise to the country’s Muslim following the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component’s apology to Sarawakians.

“This will hopefully ease the feelings of the majority community in the country and ensure a good start by considering the sensitivities of Muslims and Malays,” Asri said in a Facebook post.

He said DAP should make the apology since it is part of the new government, and if it doesn’t, “they will be seen as having the same DAP identity as before that made Muslims uneasy”.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke yesterday apologised to Sarawak and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government for any offensive statements by his party leaders.

Loke said he had met with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg in Kuching to convey this, as part of efforts to begin a new chapter under a new government for the country.

Following that, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng also apologised to Sarawak, calling for a fresh start. Lim did not mention what he was specifically apologising for, but as finance minister previously, had made several critical remarks against the state leadership.

DAP, as part of PH, will be in government with old foe Barisan Nasional, as well as with GPS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, after the results of the 15th general election resulted in a hung Parliament. – The Vibes, November 25, 2022
