JOHOR BARU – Suspended from Umno for six years, former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Salim Sharif now questions what he has done wrong to have been banished from the party.

Following a Free Malaysia Today (FMT) report, Salim said, in addition to not being informed of the suspension beforehand, he also has not received any form of documentation by Umno with regard to his ban.

He suggested that he came to know about the suspension after his friends showed that his name was on a list.

“I don’t know what sins I committed. After all that I have sacrificed in the past 35 years (in Umno), it is as though (I committed) some big sin to warrant getting suspended for six years,” he said.

In the meantime, Salim says he will await further details from Umno over his suspension before deciding on his next move.

Further, he adds that he had hoped the party would have given him a right to defend himself before punishment.

Salim, who represented the Jempol parliamentary constituency from 2018 to 2020, was not selected as a candidate for the 15th general election.

Other members who received a six-year suspension from the party include Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, former Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan, and Tebrau Umno chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang.

Meanwhile, former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and former Tg Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar were sacked from the party. – The Vibes, January 28, 2023
