KUALA LUMPUR – Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and former Johor menteri besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad have thrown their hats into the ring for the three Umno vice-president posts in the party’s upcoming elections.

Hasni and Wan Rosdy confirmed that they had submitted their nomination forms at the party’s headquarters yesterday via posts on their respective Facebook pages.

Apart from the two, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani is another new face who has confirmed his participation in the contest for the vice-presidency posts so far.

The incumbents are former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob; former rural development minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid; and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Khaled and Mahdzir have announced that they would be seeking re-election, while Ismail Sabri has not yet expressed his position on the matter.

Meanwhile, Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad also confirmed that she would be defending her position.

The Parit Sulong MP is expected to fight for the post against former Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who submitted her nomination form on February 17.

“My commitment remains the same, which is to continue with our common agenda to empower Umno and the Wanita wing, in particular.

“I offer my candidacy to continue serving the party, the people and the country. The experience of helming Wanita in a situation where the party lost and the influence of our party was questioned, has made me more determined to continue leading Wanita in line with the party’s leadership,” said Noraini in a post on Facebook.

Elections for positions in the party’s Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings will be held on March 11, while contests for the divisional committee posts, vice-presidency and Supreme Council posts will be held on March 18. – Bernama, February 25, 2023
