ARAU – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said that he wants the marketability of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) graduates under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry to be increased from the current rate of 90%.
The rural and regional development minister said there were 280 TVET institutions under the ministry and its agencies, adding that some of the TVET fields under the institutions have reached a 98.4% rate in graduate marketability, including for aircraft maintenance.
“This is what we want to prove to the community – that the investment made by the government through TVET, especially under the ministry, will give good results,” he said while speaking at the ministry’s Ramadan programme here yesterday.
Zahid said the demand for TVET graduates has continued to increase, and some graduates are earning more than those involved in non-technical and skills-related jobs.
He said many technocrats from developed countries such as Germany, Japan, South Korea, and the United States also come from the TVET field, adding that the community should be aware of the importance of TVET and that the field should not be the second option for students who do not excel in academics.
TVET students can pursue higher-level education from the diploma to the PhD level to increase their skills and improve their marketability, he added.
