KUALA LUMPUR – The Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) line experienced another breakdown this evening due to a blackout in several stations.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said this involved five underground stations between Ampang Park and Masjid Jamek.

In a statement, the company said the disruption was caused by an electrical problem that began at 7.50pm this evening.

Facilities such as elevators, escalators, and lights at the stations involved were affected.

“The operations team has activated an alternative rail line whereby all trains coming from Putra Heights have been redirected to the LRT Pasar Seni station, and trains coming from Gombak are redirected back to the LRT Damai station.”

“At the moment, restoration works are being carried out. Rapid Rail wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Prasarana also said it will provide frequent updates through RapidKL’s social media profiles and at the stations involved.

In a follow-up statement, Prasarana said the services in the affected stations had been restored at 9.51pm.

“Preliminary investigations found that the disruption was caused by a cable that was unable to channel electric power to the underground stations.

“A more detailed investigation will be carried out to identify the cause of the incident so that it could be avoided in future.”

The company said passengers who were affected were directed to connecting trains between the Pasar Seni and the Dang Wangi stations.

It added that eight replacement buses were also made available between the stations. – The Vibes, March 6, 2023
