GEORGE TOWN – The Penang Hill funicular train service will be closed for its scheduled biennial maintenance from June 15 to 23, and will resume operations on June 25.
Penang Hill Corporation said in a statement today that the service undergoes two scheduled maintenance sessions every year under the supervision of engineers from Switzerland’s Garaventa AG.
“The corporation also conducts periodic inspections and maintenance on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, as well as daily routine checks after operating hours to ensure that the train service is always at its best condition,” the statement read.
During the maintenance period, visitors can opt to use the jeep service managed by the Penang Hill Jeep Service Drivers Association at 012-4541255, located at the Rifle Club parking lot in the Botanical Gardens, or use the hiking trail to reach the top of Penang Hill.
