JOHOR BARU – Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng is rallying the public to file police reports against PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over political statements deemed to be racist and extremist.
In a statement today, Lim made reference to past statements by Hadi, claiming that the Marang MP’s actions show that he is prepared to betray and sacrifice the basic constitutional rights of Malaysia’s non-Muslim and non-Malay population.
Adding further, Lim, who is DAP chairman, suggested that Hadi’s statements are a dangerous provocation to disrupt and destabilise the federal unity government.
“Hadi has no shame in repeating, again and again, the lie that minorities won the 2022 general election with a higher voter turnout than Malays, even though Malays have the highest voter turnout of all communities at 79%.
“Last year, Hadi claimed that the majority of the corrupt are non-Muslims and non-Bumiputera.
“For Hadi to repeat his lie that non-Muslims are to be blamed for being the cause of corruption in Malaysia, and now escalate it further by claiming that non-Muslims and non-Malays are the biggest plunderers, shows that he and PAS are a clear and present danger to the vision of Malaysia belonging to all,” he said.
Lim went on to further rubbish Hadi’s claim, pointing out that the current administration in Putrajaya has 19 Muslim ministers, while 77 of the government’s 148 MPs are Muslims.
Such statements, he said, only expose PAS’ naked pursuit of power by using dangerous racial tactics, which target minorities by claiming that non-Muslims and non-Malays are a threat to the majority.
He also attributed Hadi’s actions to the previous government’s failure.
“To disregard Hadi not only condemns non-Muslims and non-Malays but also deprives them of their fundamental rights as enshrined in the federal constitution.
“Failure to counter this dangerous attempt to sabotage, undermine and replace the unity government that has won a vote of confidence in Parliament would be tantamount to being disrespectful to the king and Parliament.
“For this reason, Malaysians should lodge police reports against Hadi to stop such divisive, extremist and racist politics that would threaten national unity and integration,” Lim said. – The Vibes, May 10, 2023
