SHAH ALAM – Just months ahead of the state elections, Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has vowed to address the issue of clean water supply in Kelantan for good.
The PKR vice-president said he notes the long-standing problem affecting those in the east coast state, and questioned PAS’ lack of action on the matter despite being in power for years.
“At the federal level, and taking into consideration the fact that I am the minister in charge of water, we give our commitment to resolve the issue of clean water supply in Kelantan once and for all.
“How do you talk about being a Muslim government when even the issue of clean water cannot be resolved?” he asked in his winding-up speech at PKR’s special congress here today.
Six states, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Selangor, Penang, and Negri Sembilan, are due to dissolve their respective assemblies some time in the middle of this year.

Earlier in his speech, Nik Nazmi, who is PKR’s liaison chairman for Kelantan and Terengganu, said both states, currently under PAS’ leadership, deserve a better government to oversee their welfare.
However, he did not go into specific details on the core issues currently affecting residents there.
Nik Nazmi said even in the event that parties in the federal government do not capture Kelantan, they vow to be a strong opposition that will represent the voices of the rakyat.
The Setiawangsa MP also rallied party members to not give up hope about potentially winning in Kelantan and Terengganu, despite the two states being PAS strongholds over the past decade.
He cited the previous victories by Pakatan Rakyat’s in several states during the 2008 general election as examples that nothing is impossible.
